articlesFrom Rolling Stone Raves: What Your Rock N Roll Favorites Favor by Anthony Bozza, Shawn Dahl, and Matt Pinfield THE BOOK"Richard Ford - 'Independence Day' was one of the best books I ever read. This middle aged, divorced guy looks for meaning in life. He just writes beautifully, he's sarcastic and funny. His writing excites me. Martin Amis is the ultimate in cynicism. His English sense of humor and his portrayal of alcoholics are totally right on. Keith from 'London Fields' - God, what an incredible character. The way he talks about male jealousy and power struggles is unbelievable. Peter Hoeg is a pretty author. 'Smilla's Sense of Snow' in particular was excellent. It has a strong female hero who is a 35 year old Greenland superwoman living in Denmark - an amazing, unlikely hero. The book is a mystery. There's always been an adversarial relationship between Greenland and Denmark, so the book is also about that, but it's set in a story about a boy that the woman believes was killed. I also read some political stuff. Cornel West is an amazing author to read about black - white relations in the US. He's a professor of African American studies at Princeton."
