reviewsPixiesDeal - 04/05/03 PJ Concert ReviewWell, first off, I have to say I had an AMAZING time at the PJ concert last night in San Antonio. It was one of the best concerts I ever been too. My day began with waiting in line w/my brother, at noon. There were some people waiting at the front of the window and I think we were like the 10th people in line or something like that. Anyway, the people at the venue came and told us to get in line on the other side of the window, to say so the least, we lost our place in line and we were in the middle. All that being early for nothing. Anyway, while we were waiting in line, we saw a bus roll in, I don't know if it was the band or not. But we all looked in amazement. We didn't get our tickets until 3:45, which was like a pain since my legs were already hurting. Anyway, we got our tickets and we got section 105 row H seat 9-10. I was happy. It was my first PJ concert anyway and I was going to enjoy myself. Anyway, my brother and I had time to kill, so we went to go to the stores in the area. Then we came back and in the midst of all the tiredness that we both suffered (almost got into accidents along the way to the venue again ) I forgot my signs that i made w: "WE STILL LOVE PEARL JAM;" "STONE ROCKS!" and "THANK U PEARL JAM" along w/my 3 inch heel boots in the trunk of my car. As we sat down, well, we weren't in the pit area, liked I hope to be (of course I blame myself for not joining the fan club earlier). We were though able to see the band from that part. We were on Mike's far right and the section was leveled. Sleater-Kinney came on and did a great set! Matt and Stone were at the right side of the stage catching their set. Even though I couldn't tell their faces, I knew it was them. PJ took the stage around 8:45 and it was SO COOL!! They opened up the show w/one of my favorite songs: Of the Girl. I totally freaked out!! I was hoping them to play Mankind, but that is okay. Then they played a Pink Floyd song, "Interstellar Overdrive" and went into Corduroy. You know, the whole entire band was moving...even Stone! I was totally shocked that he was moving around like he used to. From what I have seen in the videos and tv performances back in the day. He was running around like crazy and was doing more than his usual "duck walk." Last Exit was next, and everyone, i swear, was jumping and singing along. I sang on almost every single song they did. Then after Cropduster, Eddie told everyone it was Mike's B-day, and we all sang to him and the cameras were on Mike's face and you could see him on the huge screen they had. As we were singing, he was happy as he conducted us, the fans, and he pretended to cry. haha. Then they played Even Flow, and Mike did an AWESOME solo!! He shredded on that guitar like nothing and we were all cheering for him. One of the highlights of the night was when Eddie sang Wishlist, he added lines to the song by what had happened in Denver and all the media attention. He sang that it was his right to say what he wanted to say and I thought that was cool. Another highlight was during one of the solos for Save You, they put the camera on Stone during his solo and well, the boy grew out his hair a bit. He looked HOT as usual, but we all know that he does Anyway, the camera was on him and I think he didn't realize it, and he kind of gave a little shock when he realized it was on him. haha. After Spin the black circle, they left and came back and did Betterman and put Save It For Later at the end of the song. (I totally forgot who sang the original one) and then they sang a punked verison of Happy Birthday to Mike again and this time they brought out the cake. Jeff lit the candles or tried haha. I couldn't see b/c there were tall people in front of me. And Eddie was singing w/his little guitar and Jeff was coming towards Mike and he shoved the cake in his face. Mike was full of frosting and all. Then Jeff came and licked his face and Mike was trying to clean himself. It was so funny!! Then Mike took off his shirt and started to play. They ended that set w/Do the Evolution, and it totally rocked!! I was yelling "go Stone!!" even though he couldn't hear me. Then the band left and Eddie and Matt came and did their 2nd encore. Ed sang I Am A Patriot, which totally rocked and I think silenced all those people who bashed him. I was so proud to be a PJ fan that night. Then the rest of the band came out and did Alive. Stone doing the beginning riff brought me back to 1991, when I first heard and saw the video. I swear, during the whole entire song, Stone was doing the facial features he did on the video waaay back then. And he was moving a lot. He was jumping and moving around like he had taken a energy pill or something. I was like "DAMN!! He can move!" Then Ed told Keely to turn on the house lights, and I just noticed how packed the show was. I thought that was AWESOME that a lot of people came out to see the show. Then they did Yellow Ledbetter, and did Baba O' Riley and we were all singing and at the end of the song, Ed threw his tamberines out to the crowd, and boy could he throw them. The sheer magitude of that band totally rocked and I was pleased!! I didn't even realize how many fan club people were at the show, they filled the pit area, plus my section, and the section next to that. WOW!! Overall, I had a great time and I hope to see them in Dallas in June and if they go to Seattle again, I will be going. That is everything in a nutshell, now I must do my stupid homework which is due tomorrow night. peace, love and rock on, |
